Art vs. Apple

This week, Apple removed 500px‘s iPhone app from the iTunes store. The reason for that shows again, how strictly Apple enforces its rules. 500px obviously made it too easy to find nude pictures in their stock. Now, if you know 500px and the pictures that are uploaded to the platform day by day, you know that the majority of the pictures is of high or at least medium quality. Many of the publishers are professional photographers or at least quite talented ones. Some of them show their talents in photographing people in a creative way. This includes nude photos! Nothing more!

500px policy says that users are not allowed

  • “To post or transmit, or cause to be posted or transmitted, any Content that is libellous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, abusive, offensive, profane, or that infringes any copyright or other right of any person”

Consequently, everything you can find on 500px should be ok to be seen also by younger visitors!

The result: 500px is making some changes so that nude content will not be searchable any more on the iOS platform. This applies to ALL users independently from their age! Android apps are not concerned by this incident. Google’s fine with the 500px policy!
